NOTE the following was first posted on AMAZING GOOD EATS when it first began. It’s about Dr Taveau’s FATHER and HIS “SNAKE” PATTIES …HIS ALL TIME FAVORITE REAL LIFE RECIPE…..???

* No, her senior pioneering pastor father was NOT into snake handling…
The OFFICIAL BACK STORY REGARDING THE GRILLING OF SNAKE PATTIES.
Due to the fact that Taveau’s mother never cooked, her busy senior pastor/school teacher father primarily did all the cooking.
He was a great cook, but one who had a very limited repertoire, which was hamburger, beef roast, and T-bone steak (which he purchased on the 99 cents each T bone steak special..way many years ago), canned green beans, canned corn or frozen broccoli, on any given day, with or without canned apple sauce. ALWAYS and ONLY. (no PBJ, no Deli meat, NO spaghetti, etc).
AND, although very repetitious, it was all blessed by God and excellent provision!
On the days when her dear father did not cook, the family ate out (fast food hamburgers) OR during some months of every school year, when his mother, Dr. T’s grandmother, came to help out, she always cooked fried salmon croquettes, cabbage and corn bread.
ONCE in a while, she did make delicious deep fried chicken. But Taveau mostly remembers the aroma in the kitchen as she came home from school of deep fried salmon croquettes and cooked cabbage and cornbread.(with or without canned green beans and/or canned apple sauce)
One late afternoon , as Taveau’s pastor father, servant leader and humble true servant of God ( and his dear family,) was outside cooking yet another round of grilled ground chuck hamburgers (as he always took pride in saying they were ground chuck)…teenage Taveau walked in from her day at school…and noticing what was being cooked for her on the grill, with deep disappointment, and hugely deep unthankfulness, said, “O NO! NOT more hamburger again tonight.”
To which her dear father replied, “Why no, these are STEAK PATTIES” (to try to make her feel better)…to which the ungrateful teen responded, “NO, they’re not steak patties…. they’re SNAKE patties.”
Later father and first born loving daughter laughed at all of that. And starting after that, there was always a family joke about his grilling: Taveau would always ask him WHEN he was going to make more Snake Patties for dinner again.
Here is Senior Pastor Kimball Johnson’s Own
GROUND STEAK ( SNAKE) PATTIE Recipe:
One hamburger (or if truly preferred, faux or real snake,(nah, only kidding) but maybe buffalo?) pattie;
Shape preferred pattie to size; Add on top salt, pepper and Lea & Perrin’s Worchestire Sauce…all to taste,
Grill or fry until done (meaning as rare or cooked as you prefer). Place well cooked pattie on center of whole grain or white bun.Add condiments of choice
TODAY MODERN “SNAKE “(ground steak) PATTIE UPDATE:
…OR to use a red meat substitute: Just use the same procedure on ground turkey, chicken, even buffalo. It is the LEA and PERRINS (use that kind) worchestershire sauce that ( I believe) makes it so good.
AND if you are carb counting, use 2 big pieces of ice burg fresh lettuce wrapped around your ” pattie of choice” taking the place of a bun (shades of In and Out Burger)
SUMMARY: if the truth be known, I guess in hindsight, one MIGHT refer to my dear late, extra special, Daddy as technically a “snake PATTIE” handler….??
